Itinerary
Day 1 — Tangier · Cap Spartel · Chefchaouen Tangier to Chefchaouen — approx. 120 km · 2.5 hrs
Your journey begins with a pickup from Tangier airport, port, or your accommodation. Start with a visit to Cap Spartel, where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean, and explore the mystical Hercules Caves carved into the cliffs. If time allows, take a short walk through Tangier’s historic medina before winding up into the Rif Mountains toward Chefchaouen, the iconic blue-washed city that will be your home for the night.
Day 2 — Chefchaouen · Volubilis · Meknes · Fes Chefchaouen to Fes — approx. 200 km · 4 hrs (with stops)
Leave the blue city behind and head south toward the Roman ruins of Volubilis, one of North Africa’s best-preserved archaeological sites and a UNESCO World Heritage landmark. Continue to the imperial city of Meknes, where you’ll admire the monumental Bab Mansour gate, the royal granaries, and the vast medina before continuing east to Fes. Check in to your riad in the heart of the ancient city and settle in for the evening.
Day 3 — Fes Medina Visit Guided
Full day in Fes — no driving Today is entirely devoted to Fes el-Bali, the world’s largest car-free urban area and one of Morocco’s most extraordinary experiences. With a knowledgeable local guide, explore the labyrinthine alleys of the medina, the famous Chouara tanneries, the ornate Bou Inania Medersa, and the bustling spice and craft souks. By evening, you’ll have a deep and lasting impression of a city that has barely changed in a thousand years.
Day 4 — Fes · Ifrane · Ziz Valley · Merzouga Fes to Merzouga — approx. 430 km · 7 hrs (with stops)
An early start takes you south through Ifrane, a charming Alpine-style town set among cedar forests where Barbary macaques roam freely. The landscape gradually shifts as you descend into the vast Ziz Valley, a dramatic river gorge lined with thousands of palm trees and ancient ksour. Arrive in Merzouga as the sun begins to lower, mount your camel for a sunset trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes, and spend the night in a traditional desert camp beneath a sky full of stars.
Day 5 — Merzouga · Todra Gorge · Ouarzazate Merzouga to Ouarzazate — approx. 360 km · 5.5 hrs (with stops)
Wake before dawn to catch the sunrise over the Sahara — one of the most breathtaking moments of the entire journey. After breakfast at camp, drive west through the Valley of the Draa and stop at Todra Gorge, where sheer 300-metre rock walls tower above a narrow canyon and a cool mountain stream. Continue through the cinematic landscapes of the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs before arriving in Ouarzazate, Morocco’s film capital, for a well-earned overnight rest.
Day 6 — Ouarzazate · Ait Ben Haddou · Marrakech Ouarzazate to Marrakech — approx. 200 km · 3.5 hrs (with stops)
Begin the day with a visit to Atlas Film Studios, where blockbusters like Gladiator and Game of Thrones were filmed, for a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at Morocco’s cinematic legacy. Just a short drive away, the UNESCO-listed ksar of Ait Ben Haddou rises dramatically from the earth — a stunning fortified village of earthen towers and ancient kasbahs that demands to be explored on foot. Cross the High Atlas via the Tichka Pass and descend into the warmth and energy of Marrakech by late afternoon.
Day 7 — Marrakech · Essaouira Marrakech to Essaouira — approx. 190 km · 2.5 hrs
Spend the morning immersed in the legendary Jemaa el-Fna square, where snake charmers, street musicians, and food stalls create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else on earth. Wander through the souks, visit the Koutoubia Mosque, and soak in the colours and aromas of the medina. After lunch, transfer west to Essaouira, a UNESCO-listed coastal town of whitewashed walls, blue boats, and Atlantic breezes — a peaceful and beautiful contrast to the intensity of Marrakech.
Day 8 — Essaouira · Casablanca Essaouira to Casablanca — approx. 360 km · 3.5 hrs
Enjoy a relaxed final morning in Essaouira — stroll along the ancient sea ramparts, browse the art galleries and wood-carving workshops, and breathe in the fresh ocean air one last time. After lunch, transfer north along the Atlantic coast to Casablanca, where your driver will drop you at the airport or your hotel depending on your flight schedule. It has been a journey across the very best of Morocco — from the Sahara to the sea.
